East Coast Park Boat Fire: Blaze Sends Thick Smoke Over Singapore Coastline

A fire broke out at a boat storage compound at East Coast Park in Singapore on Thursday, October 8, 2026, sending a large plume of black smoke into the sky and prompting an emergency response from the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF). The blaze involved boats and other items stored at the compound along the park’s shoreline.

SCDF said it was alerted to the fire at approximately 3:20 p.m. Emergency crews responded to the scene and worked to bring the flames under control. Firefighters eventually extinguished the blaze using two water jets, preventing the fire from continuing to spread through the storage area.

The incident attracted attention because of the thick, dark smoke that rose above East Coast Park and could be seen from surrounding areas. Reports said the smoke was visible to motorists travelling along the East Coast Parkway, with some people able to see the plume from locations farther away.

Footage and photographs shared online showed emergency personnel working around the affected boat storage area as firefighters continued cooling the site after the main flames had been extinguished. Several fire engines, police officers and SCDF personnel were observed in the area during the response.

One firefighter subsequently became unwell after the firefighting operation. SCDF said the firefighter was taken to Singapore General Hospital as a precaution. There were no reports in the available information of members of the public being seriously injured in the fire.

Witnesses described seeing the smoke suddenly rise from the waterfront area. One fisherman told local media that he noticed the thick black smoke while he was near the water and alerted emergency services. The fire was already under control when media representatives arrived, although firefighters remained at the scene to deal with remaining hot spots and ensure the area was safe.

The East Coast Park area is a major recreational destination in Singapore, stretching along the eastern coastline and offering beaches, cycling paths, dining areas and water-related activities. The park is also located alongside the East Coast Parkway, meaning a large smoke plume from an incident there can quickly become visible to passing motorists.

Authorities have not yet announced what caused the fire or provided a detailed assessment of the property damage. The cause remains under investigation, and further information could be released as investigators examine the scene.

The East Coast Park boat fire serves as another reminder of the hazards associated with fires involving boats, marine equipment and other combustible materials. While firefighters successfully extinguished the blaze, the incident resulted in a precautionary hospital visit for one responder and temporarily drew significant attention because of the dramatic smoke visible across the surrounding area.
