Inkster Domestic Violence Incident: Two Young Boys Found Safe in Ohio Cornfield After Search

INKSTER, MICHIGAN — October 15, 2026 — Two young boys, ages 4 and 6, have been found safe in an Ohio cornfield following a frightening domestic violence incident in Inkster, Michigan, that triggered an extensive search across state lines. The children were recovered on Wednesday, October 14, after authorities tracked their father's vehicle from Michigan to Norwalk, Ohio.

According to the Inkster Police Department, the incident began at a residence in the 4500 block of Springhill. Officers received a report at approximately 10:04 a.m. after the children's mother reported being assaulted and restrained. Police said the man allegedly struck her with a firearm before leaving the home with the two boys in her vehicle.

Multi-State Search Launched

Authorities immediately began working to locate the children and establish the father's whereabouts. During a telephone conversation, the mother reportedly learned that he was in Rouge Park in Detroit and had threatened to harm himself and the children.

Detroit police joined the search, but officers were initially unable to locate the vehicle in the park. Investigators then used license-plate reader technology and cellphone location information to follow leads beyond Inkster.

The investigation eventually directed authorities toward Norwalk, Ohio, approximately 120 miles from Inkster. Police agencies in Michigan and Ohio coordinated their efforts as concern for the children's safety grew.

Children Found in an Ohio Cornfield

The search reached a critical point when officers established contact with the children. According to police accounts, one of the boys told authorities that they were in a cornfield and that their father had shot himself.

Officers in Ohio located both children and confirmed that they were safe and unharmed. The father was also found deceased at the scene from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to police.

The boys received care and support from medical personnel and social workers in Ohio. Authorities also helped establish contact between the children and their mother while arrangements were made for their return to Michigan.

Investigation Into the Domestic Incident

Police identified the father as Brandon Deandre Lee, 36. Investigators are examining the reported assault, the events leading to the children's removal from the home, and the circumstances surrounding his death.

Officials have emphasized that the investigation involved several agencies, including the Inkster Police Department, Detroit police, Norwalk police, and the Huron County Sheriff's Office.

Authorities have not reported an ongoing threat to the public connected with the incident.

Community Reacts With Relief and Concern

The safe recovery of the two boys brought relief after hours of uncertainty. However, the reported violence has also highlighted the serious risks associated with domestic abuse and threats involving children.

Police have encouraged anyone experiencing domestic violence to seek help and contact emergency services when in immediate danger.

As investigators continue their work, attention remains on supporting the children and their mother through the aftermath of the ordeal. Their safe recovery marks a hopeful outcome in a deeply distressing incident, while the wider community reflects on the importance of protecting families and responding quickly when violence threatens lives.
