Norview High School Shooting Today: 16-Year-Old Student Killed After School Shooting

The Norview High School community in Norfolk, Virginia, is mourning after a shooting involving two 16-year-old students left one teenager dead and another injured following dismissal on Wednesday, October 7, 2026. Authorities said the shooting happened near the school, prompting a significant police response and additional security measures around the campus.

According to the Norfolk Police Department, officers were called at approximately 2:25 p.m. to the 6800 block of Sewells Point Road after receiving a report of a person suffering from a gunshot wound. When officers arrived, they found two 16-year-old males with gunshot injuries. Both victims were transported to a hospital. One suffered life-threatening injuries and was later pronounced dead. The second victim was reported to have non-life-threatening injuries.

Norfolk Public Schools confirmed that students from the Norview High School community were involved in the shooting after dismissal as they were leaving the campus. The district said the incident occurred at the northwest corner of the property and that Norfolk Police and school security were working together as the investigation continued.

Police Chief Mark Talbot said investigators believe the victims were approached in the school parking lot by another group of juveniles before a suspect allegedly pulled out a firearm and shot them. Authorities said they know the identity of the suspected shooter and were actively searching for that person.

The shooting prompted additional safety measures involving the school community. Norfolk Public Schools said additional police officers, school resource officers and security personnel would be present at Norview High School following the incident. Counselors, psychologists and other support staff were also made available to students and employees dealing with the aftermath.

Officials have urged members of the public not to spread rumors, graphic material or unconfirmed information while detectives investigate. Authorities are asking anyone who witnessed the shooting or has information that could help identify the suspect to contact the Norfolk Crime Line or submit information through the P3 Tips system.

The fatal shooting has left students, families, teachers and staff facing a difficult period of grief and uncertainty. School officials have emphasized that counseling and emotional support will remain available as the Norview community works through the tragedy.

The investigation remains active, and additional details about the circumstances, motive and potential charges are expected as police continue gathering evidence. At this time, officials have not publicly identified the teenage victims or released further details about the suspected shooter.
