SIOUX FALLS, South Dakota — Two men were arrested following reports of gunfire and threats involving multiple vehicles in southwest Sioux Falls on Friday, October 9, 2026. The incidents prompted a police investigation after motorists reported that a passenger in a pickup truck had threatened drivers and fired shots.
According to Dakota News Now, police received the first report near 41st Street and Kiwanis Avenue. A rideshare driver told authorities that a pickup truck pulled alongside the vehicle and that a passenger pointed a handgun at the driver and two passengers. The driver was able to drop off the passengers safely.
While officers investigated that report, police received another weapons-related complaint near 34th Street and Louise Avenue. The caller reported that a blue pickup truck had followed their vehicle and that a passenger leaned out of the window and fired multiple rounds.
The driver reportedly pulled into a parking lot and contacted police for assistance.
Police Locate Suspects
Officers continued investigating the reports and eventually located the pickup truck at a hotel in southwest Sioux Falls. Police arrested both the driver and the passenger.
During a search of the vehicle, officers reportedly recovered two handguns and ammunition that matched shell casings collected at the shooting scene. Investigators are examining the evidence to establish the circumstances surrounding the incidents and determine the extent of the alleged offenses.
Police expressed relief that no injuries were reported in connection with these two incidents.
Charges Filed Against the Passenger
Authorities identified the passenger as Brian Larvie, 47, of Sioux Falls. According to the published report, he was booked on four counts of aggravated assault, reckless discharge of a firearm, possession of a firearm by a former violent offender, and possession of a loaded firearm while intoxicated.
The driver was identified as Christopher Horton, 40, of Williston, North Dakota. He was arrested on a third-offense driving while intoxicated charge and several traffic-related offenses.
The charges describe allegations against the two men. Any determination of guilt must be made through the judicial process.
Separate Road-Rage Shooting Under Investigation
The latest arrests follow another reported shooting in Sioux Falls earlier in the week. Police said a juvenile suffered minor, non-life-threatening injuries after a vehicle was allegedly targeted during a road-rage incident early Sunday, October 4.
Investigators reported that the suspect vehicle was a gray sedan and that several shots were fired at the victim's vehicle. Police also recovered shell casings and investigated reports of gunfire damage to a nearby home.
Authorities later announced an arrest in that separate case. The incidents should not be confused, as investigators have not established that they are connected.
