Strandfontein Shooting: Three People Killed in Weekend Violence as Police Investigate

STRANDFONTEIN, CAPE TOWN, SOUTH AFRICA — Residents of Strandfontein are mourning after a series of shootings over the weekend left three people dead and others injured. Police are investigating separate incidents reported on Friday, October 16, and Saturday, October 17, 2026, as community members call for stronger action against violent crime.

According to local news reports, the shootings have increased fear among residents and renewed concerns about suspected gang-related violence in the area.

Church Street Shooting Leaves One Person Dead

The first incident occurred on Church Street at approximately 8 p.m. on Friday, October 16. Police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel FC van Wyk said two 19-year-old men were shot and wounded.

Both victims were taken to hospital for treatment. One of the young men later died from his injuries, prompting police to update the case to include murder alongside attempted murder.

Investigators reportedly believe the incident may have been gang-related. However, the full circumstances and the identities of those responsible have not been publicly established in the reports reviewed.

Dinghie Circle Shooting Claims Two Lives

A second shooting took place in Dinghie Circle, Old Strandfontein, at approximately 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, October 17.

Police reportedly arrived to find four people suffering from gunshot wounds. Two men, aged 33 and 44, were declared dead at the scene by medical personnel. The other two victims were transported to separate medical facilities for treatment.

Investigators were told that occupants of two white Volkswagen Polo vehicles allegedly approached the group, opened fire and fled. Police believe the attack may have been gang-related.

Strandfontein detectives are investigating two counts of murder and two counts of attempted murder. Public reports reviewed for this article did not confirm any arrests.

Community Leaders Urge Calm

The shootings have prompted concern from the Strandfontein Community Police Forum (CPF), local representatives and residents. Community leaders have urged people to remain vigilant, avoid spreading unverified messages and refrain from sharing videos that could interfere with police investigations.

The CPF also rejected rumours that the property connected to the Dinghie Circle shooting was a halfway house for parolees. Its chairperson, Sandy Schuter, said the property was not on the list of such facilities known to her through police checks.

Authorities have reportedly introduced an operational plan intended to increase visibility and reduce the risk of further violence or retaliation.

Police Investigation Continues

Police are appealing to anyone with information about the shootings to come forward. Information can be provided to Crime Stop on 08600 10111, or anonymously through the MySAPS mobile application.

As the investigation continues, residents are being encouraged to cooperate with authorities and support affected families.
