VUU Shooting Today: Two Men Injured During Virginia Union University Homecoming Weekend

RICHMOND, VIRGINIA — October 25, 2026 — A shooting near Virginia Union University (VUU) has raised concerns about campus safety after two men were injured during the university’s Homecoming weekend on Saturday night, October 24. Richmond police responded to reports of gunfire near the campus as large crowds gathered for celebrations. Authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding

the incident and are asking witnesses to provide information.

What Happened at Virginia Union University?

According to local news reports, officers responded to the 1500 block of North Lombardy Street at approximately 8:30 p.m. after receiving reports of a shooting. The location is near the university campus, where Homecoming activities had attracted a large number of students, alumni and visitors.

Responding officers found an adult man with an apparent gunshot wound and transported him to a hospital. A second adult man later arrived at a hospital independently with a gunshot wound.

Both men were reported to have injuries that were not considered life-threatening in the initial updates. Authorities have not publicly identified the victims in the reports reviewed.

Altercation May Have Preceded Gunfire

Richmond Police Chief Rick Edwards said investigators believe an altercation near Henderson Hall escalated into gunfire. Numerous people were reportedly in the vicinity when shots were fired, and many fled after hearing the gunshots.

Law enforcement officers were already stationed on campus for Homecoming activities and reportedly reached the scene within approximately one minute, according to local reporting.

Investigators are working to establish the full sequence of events, including what triggered the confrontation and who was involved. Authorities have not released a confirmed motive, and additional details remain under investigation.

Second Shooting Reported During Homecoming Week

The latest incident follows another shooting reported at Virginia Union University earlier in the week. On Tuesday night, October 20, a man sustained gunshot wounds in a parking area near the Huntley Building. He was transported to a hospital with injuries described as non-life-threatening.

The two incidents occurring within the same week have heightened concern among students, families and members of the Richmond community. However, authorities have not announced that the incidents are connected.

Police Seek Witnesses and Video Evidence

Richmond police are urging anyone who witnessed Saturday’s shooting or captured relevant photographs or videos to contact investigators. People who left the area after hearing gunfire may also have information that could help clarify what happened.

Anyone with information can contact Major Crimes Detective James Higgins at 804-646-7570 or Crime Stoppers at 804-780-1000.

As of October 25, 2026, the investigation remains ongoing. The reported injuries were not considered life-threatening, but questions about the confrontation and those responsible remain unanswered.

Students and visitors should follow official university safety notices and instructions from law enforcement. Further updates may be released as investigators gather evidence and verify additional information about the shooting.
